"Baltic raku" in the Netherlands

Society  Baltic raku’ ceramist Ilona Šauša won in competition announced  by the Zemgales Planning Region for creative craftsmen and designers.  This gave her an opportunity to participate in the project ‘Regional Cooperation for Crafts Development’  were organized a range of seminars and practical workshops in the time period from 2012 December till 2014 July. Workshops are going to go in the Netherlands, Portugal, Bulgaria, Greece and Spain with the aim to develop cross region collaboration between Latvia and mentioned above countries, to promote practical skills and to exchange  with know-how. The first of these workshops was provided 12.12.2012. -  13.12.2012. in the Netherlands.

INTERREG IVC project "Regional Cooperation for Crafts Development" (Regio-Crafts) unites seven  partners from Latvia, Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria and Greece whos aims are to strengthen the crafts industry in the European Union as an economic sector and rise its importance in the economy and development of each project partner region.



Craftsman’s and designers’ meeting in ’Pressure cooker’ in craft MecоVeenhuizen

The theme of the Netherland seminar was ‘Craft sector economical aspects’. During the seminar participants were sharing they experience how local municipalities can help craft’s company to promote their capacity, for example, certification, collaboration of sectors and others. The most exciting was the practical part of the seminar, especially creative workshop – experiment ‘Pressure cooker’. This workshop united craftsman and designers from 5 different countries. This method of ‘Pressure cooker’ was supposed to challenge craftsman and designer, who did not know each other before to unite they knowledge and practical skills in creation of new craft product with contemporary design. In this experiment also take part 3 creative persons from Latvia: Ginta Šmite, Inga Salmiņa and Ilona Šauša. This interesting event took place in the Craft Center in Veenhuizen (the Netherlands).
